Fir a long period of time we have had sunny, cloud free skies above us and powdery snow beneath our feet. The Fitjar mountains have been a wonderful winter wonderland. Midtfjellet AS have been plowing snow to make ski-slopes preparing for excellent piste in the mountain. It is with joy we now see that so many people are enjoying the ski-conditions in the Midtfjellet area.
A lot of people have made their training course around the Olstjødno, in the ski-piste there. Others trail to the Kjerringa or to the Fitjarhesten, the highest point in the Fitjar municipality. There are also an impressive amount of people that take on the long trail from Fitjar to Stord.
The two companions Hilde Kråkenes Engelsen and Wenke Åse have both taken use of the exceptional ski-conditions in the Fitjar mountains during the weekend. They took the trip from Stord to Fitjar in the early morning hours, parking by the Olstjødno parking and set their course for the Fitjarhesten.
– When Wenke asked me to join her on the trip to FItjarhesten this weekend I wasn’t going to turn it down, Hilde says. We started out in blistering cold at 09 am, but when we got to the top the sunshine hit us.
The two friends used approximately 2 hours going up to Fitjarhesten. The wind at the summit made them find a more sheltered area to picnic further down to the Svartavatnet.
– I believe it must have been an entire peoples migration to the mountain this weekend. A trail of people both young and old moved their way into the Hesten area. There were both people from Stord and Fitjar, explains Wenke. By the Kjerringjo people sat in every sheltered corner and enjoyed themselves in the sun.
We were so lucky to borrow some pictures from the sporty women. Take a look at the pictures from the Fitjar mountains. It’s a real winter wonder land.
